For this semester’s PE, you can choose at least ONE activity from “Listening”, “Shadowing”, and “Free-speaking.” You should choose the activity(s) depending on your PE goal(s). Of course you are very welcome to do more than one activities!
Goal statement/reflection
- When you come to my individual conference this week, I ask you what you want to focus on or improve in terms of your pronunciation/speaking/listening.
- I will have at least four individual conferences with you in this semester (including this week’s). When I meet you next time, I will ask you how much you think your pronunciation/speaking/listening has been improved.
- Both shadowing and free-speaking activities require a self-evaluation (i.e., you have to listen to your own utterance and evaluate its goodness); however, I will make the self-evaluation form much simpler than the ones in the last semester.
1) Listening
- Same as the last semester's
- You print out the sheet from Blackboard(BB) and listen to the recordings to do the exercises. You submit the hard copy of the sheet to your teacher.
- Length: 45 seconds-1 min (Don’t shadow longer than two minutes.)
- You can shadow the textbook dialogue, short dialogues from the Shadowing book, or any other thing that you like, such as your favorite anime/drama or song. If you shadow anime/drama, you can choose one character’s lines. Use Voice Board on BB, and use earphones while shadowing.
- You self-evaluate your recording and submit the self-evaluation sheet through BB.
Length: a few minutes (less than 5 minutes)
Partner: your classmate, your Japanese friend, a senior Japanese student, or your Japanese-speaking family/relative, but not your Japanese teacher.
- You speak with a partner and you record the entire conversation (using Voice Board on BB).
- You self-evaluate your recording and submit the self-evaluation sheet through BB.
- You can record your conversation using Skype if it is the only way to talk with the person (but you need to record both sides’ voices). You record it with any kind of recording tool and bring me the sound file in your flash drive.
